What Every Mom Needs to Know Before Booking a Family Eye Exam at Riverside Family Eye Care

At Riverside Family Eye Care, we understand that managing a family’s health can be a full-time job. That’s why we’ve created a streamlined, welcoming experience designed to make eye care simple for every member of your household—from toddlers to teens to parents.

Whether you're scheduling your child’s first eye exam or booking a yearly checkup for yourself, our team is here to make it easy, comfortable, and stress-free.

Can I Book Appointments for the Whole Family?

Yes! We’re happy to schedule multiple family members on the same day for your convenience. However, if an appointment is missed without prior notice, we may be unable to offer this scheduling flexibility in the future. This helps us serve all of our patients efficiently.

Why Do Straight Lines Look Wavy?

If straight lines suddenly appear curved or distorted, that’s a red flag. This symptom is closely associated with:

  • Macular degeneration
  • Macular holes
  • Swelling or fluid in the retina

A simple retinal scan performed in our office can often identify the issue on the spot. Don’t ignore this sign—it’s one of the most telltale indicators of retinal changes.

What Will My Visit Cost?

We offer transparent pricing for both insured and out-of-pocket visits:

Without Insurance:

  • Comprehensive Eye Exam: $168
  • Contact Lens Evaluation: $79–$119 (based on lens type)
  • Eyeglass Frames: Starting at $200
  • Single Vision Lenses: ~$119
  • Progressive Lenses: $199–$619, depending on features

With Insurance:

Most patients have a $200 frame allowance and lens copays starting at $50. We recommend calling us to verify your specific benefits ahead of time.

Easy, Personalized Scheduling

The best way to book your visit? Call us directly.

While our website offers information, a quick phone call helps us match you with the right appointment type and confirm your insurance benefits.

  • For families: Book 3–4 weeks in advance
  • For individuals: 1–2 weeks is usually sufficient
  • Emergencies: Same-day appointments may be available for urgent issues like infections

What to Bring to Your Appointment

To make your visit as smooth as possible, please bring:

  • Photo ID
  • Insurance cards (vision and/or medical)
  • Any current glasses or contact lenses
  • Prior vision prescriptions (if available)

New patients will receive electronic paperwork ahead of time. We also send reminder texts and emails one week, three days, and one day before your visit.

Kids’ Eye Exams: Fun, Friendly, and Stress-Free

We welcome children ages 6 months and older and use gentle, age-appropriate tools to assess their vision.

Kids’ exams include:

  • Shape or picture recognition
  • Visual acuity and depth testing
  • Eye alignment and focusing assessments
  • Color vision screening
  • Gentle dilation when necessary

Parent tip: To ease anxiety, it’s best not to mention dilation before the visit. Feel free to bring snacks or small toys to keep little ones engaged.

Wearing Contacts? Here’s What to Know

If you wear contacts, please arrive with them so we can assess fit and comfort. New to contact lenses? Let us know when booking—we’ll arrange additional training time.

Dilation: Most exams include mild dilation, which typically won’t impair driving. If you're light-sensitive, bring sunglasses or a driver just in case.

Running Late or Need to Cancel?

We offer a 10–15-minute grace period for late arrivals. Need to cancel? Just let us know at least 48 hours in advance so we can offer your time slot to someone else.
