What is 710 Dab Day?

What is 710 Dab Day? – The Origins & History of 710 Dab Day

While 4/20 has long been the iconic holiday for cannabis culture, a newer celebration has emerged in the world of concentrate enthusiasts: 710 Dab Day. Unlike 4/20’s broader focus on all things cannabis, 710 zeroes in on oils, waxes, and extracts — the potent, flavorful side of the plant that’s gained massive popularity in the legal cannabis market over the last decade.

The term “710” began circulating in underground cannabis communities around 2010, primarily online. When flipped upside down, 710 spells “OIL,” a clever visual pun that became a sort of code word for concentrate lovers. It started showing up on dabbing forums, T-shirts, and Instagram hashtags — and as more people began experimenting with dabbing and vape technology, 710 took on a cultural life of its own.

The holiday began to gain traction in West Coast cannabis circles, especially in states like California and Colorado, where early legalization efforts gave birth to a booming concentrate market. Events began popping up in July each year — from dab bars at dispensaries to full-on oil-focused festivals. By the mid-2010s, brands, extract artists, and dispensaries began embracing July 10th as the official Dab Day, offering specials, product drops, and terpene-rich celebrations.

Today, 710 is widely recognized across the U.S. as a day to honor the art and science behind cannabis extraction. From solventless rosin to live resin, THCA diamonds to vape carts, the holiday showcases innovation, potency, and flavor — and gives both seasoned dabbers and curious newcomers a reason to explore the evolving world of cannabis concentrates.

What Exactly Are Dabs?

“Dabbing” refers to the method of consuming cannabis concentrates by vaporizing them on a hot surface — typically using a dab rig or specialized vaporizer. Dabs are known for their fast-acting, hard-hitting effects, making them a favorite among experienced users or medical patients who need high THC levels quickly.

Common types of dabs include:

• Shatter – a glass-like extract that snaps apart
• Wax or Budder – soft, whipped textures for easy scooping
• Live Resin – rich in terpenes and full-spectrum flavor
• Rosin – solventless, clean, and mechanically extracted
• Vape Carts – convenient, discreet, and oil-based

At Cape Cod Cannabis, we carry (and re-stock) all of the above — from trusted Massachusetts brands — and our staff is happy to help you learn which type is best for your lifestyle and experience level.

When Is 710 Celebrated?

July 10th is the official date — hence “7/10.” Much like 4/20, 710 has evolved into a national cannabis celebration, but its focus is on the more refined, high-powered world of oils, resins, and vaporizable products.

In many legal cannabis markets, 710 is now associated with:

• In-store events and vendor pop-ups
• Big discounts on dabs and carts
• Giveaways and swag for concentrate fans
• Educational demos on tools like e-rigs and dab pens

It’s the one day of the year you can geek out about terpenes, flash extraction, and THC percentages — and no one will judge you.
